Deleting your Instagram account is very simple process, but it’s important to note that there are two options: deactivating your account (temporarily disabling it) and permanently deleting it. Below are the steps for both:-
Temporarily Deactivate Your Account
Deactivating your account hides your profile, photos, comments, and likes until you reactivate it by logging back in.
Steps to Deactivate:
- Log in to Instagram via a web browser (you cannot deactivate your account through the app).
- Go to Instagram.com and log in with your credentials.
- Go to the Delete Your Account page:
- Visit this link or navigate to your profile, click the menu (three lines), and select Settings > Privacy and Security > Delete Account .
- Choose a reason for deactivation:
- Instagram will ask why you’re deactivating your account. Select an option from the dropdown menu.
- Re-enter your password:
- You’ll need to confirm your password to proceed.
- Click Temporarily Disable Account :
- Your account will now be deactivated. You can reactivate it anytime by simply logging back in.
Permanently Delete Your Account
If you want to permanently delete your Instagram account, follow these steps:
Steps to Permanently Delete:
- Log in to Instagram via a web browser (you cannot delete your account through the app).
- Go to Instagram.com and log in with your credentials.
- Go to the Delete Your Account page:
- Visit this link or navigate to your profile, click the menu (three lines), and select Settings > Privacy and Security > Delete Account .
- Choose a reason for deletion:
- Instagram will ask why you’re deleting your account. Select an option from the dropdown menu.
- Re-enter your password:
- You’ll need to confirm your password to proceed.
- Click Permanently Delete My Account :
- Once you confirm, your account will be permanently deleted, including all photos, videos, comments, likes, and followers. This action is irreversible.
Important Notes Before Deleting:
- Backup Your Data : Before deleting your account, consider downloading your Instagram data (photos, videos, comments, etc.) as a backup.
- To download your data, go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Download Data on the Instagram website. You’ll receive an email with a download link.
- Delete Linked Accounts : If your Instagram account is linked to Facebook or other services, make sure to unlink them before proceeding.
- Irreversible Action : Once you permanently delete your account, there’s no way to restore it. All your content, followers, and interactions will be gone forever.
